What is ASP?
ASP stands for "Active Server Pages," a scripting language developed by Microsoft that allows you to extend the functionality of your web pages to capture data from, and perform other functions for, people who visit your website. ASP is used to generate dynamically created webpages that usually interact with a database. This is a server-side application, meaning that the web server interprets and processes the ASP commands prior to delivering the actual webpage to the end user.
What is ASP used for?
ASP performs a number of tasks including connecting to databases, performing business calculations, or adding dynamic content to websites. It is often used in developing e-commerce applications. The advantage of using ASP is that files sent to website visitors are presented completely in HTML format, eliminating the potential of browser incompatibility that could be caused by trying to perform the same functions using applets or other scripting methods.
